Who is behind this survey and why

Who I Am

My name is Christian Schuler. I am a researcher at Saarland University and DFKI working on computational linguistics and language technology, with a particular focus on Kurdish and other languages that are underrepresented in digital tools and NLP systems.

[This section will be filled in with a short personal statement about your background, academic history, and what drew you to this research area. It is intended to give survey participants a clear picture of who is asking these questions and what motivates the work. Approx. 2-3 paragraphs.]

Why This Survey

My interest in Kurdish language communities grew out of a concern with a pattern I kept encountering in computational linguistics: research on "low-resource languages" that was designed primarily around the researcher's agenda, with communities consulted only superficially - if at all.

Before building tools or collecting data for Kurdish NLP, I wanted to start differently: by listening. This survey is that first step.

[You may wish to add more personal context here - for example, how you first encountered Kurdish communities, what specific experiences shaped your approach, or what you hope to be able to offer back to communities in the long run.]

I Welcome Feedback

If you have questions about this research, concerns about how it is conducted, or simply want to say something that the survey did not give you space to say, please write to me at the address above. I also welcome critique - of the survey design, of the framing, or of the project as a whole. Getting things right matters more than looking like I already got them right.
